Technical Team
The Technical Team is a 20+ strong team of multi-disciplinary construction professionals responsible for developing and maintaining, specification and manufacturers' information for NBS products. The team of in-house Architects, Landscape Architects, Engineers and Quantity Surveyors review changes to legislation, standards, products and industry convention to keep NBS at the forefront of best practice.
The company mission is to be the recognised experts on information in the construction, architecture and built environment sectors and the technical team is core to this success.

The Role
Structural Engineer
We are looking for a Structural Engineer who can make a difference and an excellent opportunity exists for a self-motivated engineer to join our Technical Team.
This is a high profile position, managing and updating all structural content and shaping its development. The successful applicant will be an experienced Structural Engineer with a range of project experience, an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry and an interest in best practice.
As a member of the Technical Team you will research and develop technical information and guidance for NBS products. Liaising closely with external organisations, internal teams and customers, you will provide technical direction and advice, and contribute to the ongoing development of the NBS Construction Desktop.

Qualifications
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Chartered Structural or Civil Engineer
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Authorship: Preparation and development of high quality, up to date technical information to meet customer needs. Carry out research on technical matters liaising as necessary with publishers, trade organisations, manufacturers, consultants and customers. Gather and disseminate information to customers and colleagues. Operate to a set of editorial principles with thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Professional standards: Develop, maintain and apply consistent professional standards to NBS technical material and maintain a high level of professional responsibility and performance.
- Technical awareness: Maintain knowledge and technical awareness through continuing professional development.
- Analytical and decisions making skills: Interpret and offer guidance on construction related issues and legislation commensurate with priorities and available time.
- Customer focus: Gather feedback, assess and react to the needs of customers.
- Initiative and team working: Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.
- Time and organisational management: Able to prioritise work effectively when working on a number of activities. Able to work under pressure.
- Interpersonal skills and communication: Work collaboratively with technical authors, editors other NBS teams. Sustain a high level of presentation, communication and listening. Communicate clearly and effectively with others.
- Attitude and behaviour: Flexible and adaptable in approach. Respond positively to change.
- Writing skills: Excellent writing skills.
- Computer skills: Proficient use of Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
For applicants with demonstrable leadership skills, this role may be extended to include leading a team of technical authors and writers. Additional responsibilities and skills include:
- Quality: Promote and maintain high standards of authorship.
- Planning and monitoring: Plan, oversee and coordinate the work of the authoring team and freelance consultants to achieve team objectives. Monitor the performance of the team and set clear targets.
- Project teams: Participate as an active member of project teams as assigned and play a proactive role in company wide projects.
- Team leadership: Provide effective leadership to team members. Influence and effectively motivate team members to achieve goals and embrace change. Improve performance through appropriate feedback and management.
- Team development: Identify the development needs the team and contribute to their realisation. Prepare staff development plans and undertake staff performance reviews.
- Internal processes: Improve processes to support new and existing product development.
